Cal Raleigh Adds to 2025 Trophy Chest with AL Silver Slugger Award
Major League Baseball announced its Silver Slugger Award winners on Friday, and Cal Raleigh has taken home the American League Silver Slugger at catcher. The award, which is voted on by managers and coaches, was not a surprise given Raleigh’s historic offensive season, where he hit 60 home runs, had a .359 on base percentage, a .589 slugging percentage, knocked in 125 runs, and scored 110 runs of his own.
The ways to describe the historicity of Raleigh’s campaign are as many as his home run count. He had 9.1 wins above replacement according to Fangraphs, just the fourth catcher in MLB history to ever get to the nine-WAR mark in a season. His .342 isolated power was in the all-time top 100 for a single season by any player in baseball history, he hit more home runs while playing catcher (49) than any other primary catcher had ever done total (48) in a single season, and his 65 home runs in a calendar year were the most ever in the American League.
Awards season continues as November goes on, with MVP awards due to be announced on Nov. 13.
