Seattle Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner has joined the Seattle Storm’s ownership group, the team announced Wednesday. The 11-time All-Pro is now the first active NFL player to have equity in a WNBA team.

Even though he’s now played for two different NFL teams outside of the Seahawks, Wagner has maintained his roots in Seattle. He already owns a Crumbl cookie shop in Renton, and the former second-round pick is now endorsing the city’s professional women’s basketball team.

“Bobby is a hometown hero who has had immeasurable impact on the Seattle community,” Storm co-owner Lisa Brummel said in a press release. “He shares our desire to grow the game and knows the value and importance of investing in women’s sports. As we continue to build on the incredible legacy of the Storm franchise, we are excited to add Bobby’s experience and expertise to the mix.

“It’s an honor to join the Seattle Storm ownership group and support a franchise that has consistently set the standard in women’s professional sports. This is about more than basketball, it’s about investing in a legacy of excellence, empowering women, and continuing to elevate the game for future generations.”

Wagner follows up Storm legend Sue Bird as recent Seattle sports legends to join the ownership group. Bird entered in April 2024, joining Force 10 Hoops, the team’s owners. Force 10 Hoops is comprised of Dawn Trudeau, Lisa Brummel and Ginny Gilder.

Wagner holds multiple Seahawks records, including career tackles (1,566), tackles for loss (79) and most tackles by a rookie (140). He is entering his second season with the Washington Commanders in 2025, which will be his 14th NFL season.
