The Washington Huskies women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 75-54 win over Pacific on Thursday. The Huskies got off to a slow start but pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 22-10 in the final period.
Sayvia Sellers continued her All-American campaign with 17 points and seven assists. Fellow star Avery Howell added 15 points and seven rebounds to continue her strong start to the season.
Bart Torvik's rating system now has Washington ranked No. 16 nationally after beating Pacific, which is ranked No. 161.
Here are some takeaways from Thursday's game:
Slow Start
Washington started the game sluggishly, routinely missing passes and defensive assignments, allowing an inferior team to hang around longer than it should have. Pacific actually led after the first quarter, holding a 14-12 advantage. The Huskies built an eight-point lead by halftime but extended it by just one point heading into the fourth quarter.
A win is a win at the end of the day, but the Huskies need to shake off the rust before conference play begins.
