Gonzaga Women's Soccer Throttles Fresno State 6-0 at Home, Earns First Pac-12 Win
Erupting offensively, Gonzaga women's soccer scored its most goals since the season opener, crushing Fresno State 6-0 for its first Pac-12 win.
Breaking out of a mini offensive slump, Gonzaga women’s soccer (6-6-2, 1-2-0) earned its first-ever Pac-12 victory in grand fashion. The Zags took care of business, decimating lowly Fresno State (1-12-2, 0-4-0) 6-0 back at Luger Field.
It took three games, but GU finally scored its first conference goal and snapped a streak of about 270 minutes without a goal; the last coming during its last nonconference game when it tied Idaho 1-1 on the road. The encouraging part is that none of the six goals came off the legs of Amelia Severn and Samantha Snorsky, the team’s two leading scorers. They responded to back-to-back road shutout losses to Boise State and Colorado State, including a tough 1-0 defeat where the lone goal came in the 80th minute.
With the strong defense the Bulldogs have played, an improved offensive engine could catapult them into one of the Pac-12's stronger teams. So Gonzaga needs to build on this dominant win over a weaker opponent and carry it through the remainder of league play.
In a dominant performance, the Zags outshot Fresno State 23-7 and won the corner-kick battle 9-2. They matched the program’s single-game assist record of eight set in 2020 and tied Utah State’s conference-high mark this season. FSU mustered only three shots on goal as the program continues to struggle under first-year head coach Gabriel Bolton, being outscored 14-0 in its first three conference games and 48-7 overall in 2026.
Things actually took a while to transpire, with the match scoreless for the first 36 minutes. Then Gonzaga exploded for three goals in a five-minute span late in the first half. First, Sofia Fox served the ball into the middle from the right sideline. While leaping for it, defender Jordan Sprague took out Brooke Metcalfe, but the Zags regained possession and got it back to Fox.
