Huskies, Demond Williams Jr. Likely to Get Needed Break
Washington Huskies coach Jedd Fisch said Monday that he was "not under the impression" that quarterback Demond Williams Jr. will be ready to play against Purdue. Healthy or not, should UW roll with the hot hand of Elijah Brown on Friday?
SEATTLE, Wash. – Moments after Washington's 41-24 loss at home to No. 20 Iowa, Jedd Fisch said he "needed 48 hours to process" his quarterback situation.
To be fair, he had a lot to think about.
Demond Williams Jr., who in January announced on social media his intent to leave Washington and his signed $4-plus million contract behind, landed hard after a hit late in the second half and did not return in Friday's 41-24 loss to No. 20 Iowa.
As backup Elijah Brown shined in his surprise opportunity, Williams went to the locker room and did not appear on the sideline for the remainder of the game. As Brown led two TD drives to pump some life into a game UW once trailed 27-0, the possibilities became fascinating.
Would William return to the game? At some point during a season quickly becoming lost? Next year?
Or... never?
Those questions remain mostly unanswered. After his allotted processing time, Fisch said Monday that Williams was day-to-day, before elaborating about the potential for his quarterback to play Friday at Purdue.
"I’m not under the impression that I think (Williams) will be playing this week, based upon where he’s at physically,” said Fisch, whose team fell to 0-3 in the Big Ten and 3-3 overall. “But I don’t want to predict the medical future, either. We still have four days before we’ll have to make that decision. Those injuries are ones in which you have to be able to play through it, you have to be able to have range of motion, you have to be able to have zip on the ball, you have to be able to do a lot of things to protect himself, if we were to play him.”
