The game wasn't even 30 seconds old and the Seattle Kraken were already trailing in front of the home crowd at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday night.

At the 26-second mark of the first period, Seattle had a breakdown in transition that left goalie Joey Daccord with a one-on-one against All-Star Kirill Kaprizov. That battle went to Minnesota's Russian winger as the Wild took an early 1-0 lead.

Seattle bounced back later in the first. Berkly Catton got a nice pass from Kaapo Kakko to get it in the back of the net for a tying goal, a score that stayed true going into the first intermission.

Then the second period happened.

In a similar situation to Minnesota’s first goal, Blake Coleman took advantage of a defensive breakdown for Seattle to beat Daccord one-on-one for the go-ahead goal. Later in the period, Olli Maatta got an open look for goal number three for the Wild, pushing their lead to two. A few minutes later, it looked like Daccord had secured the puck with his stuck before it rebounded loose just enough for Joel Eriksson Ek to jar it home and give the Wild a cushy 4-1 lead.

In a week where the Kraken blew two multi-goal leads in the third period only to come back and win, it was a cruel twist of fate that they found themselves now down three goals to start the third. There would be no such furious comeback. Blake Coleman added the empty netter to seal the 5-1 win for Minnesota.

The Kraken were not without chances. They were given three power plays and came up empty on special teams. This loss certainly is not all on goalie Joey Daccord, who is having something of a rough start to his 2026-27 campaign. Per MoneyPuck, he actually had a positive Goals Saved Above Expected (0.38). His defense in front of him did him no favors and the Kraken offense, which has been one of the best in the NHL early on this season, was nowhere to be found.

The 14 giveaways and defensive lapses were too much to overcome for Lane Lambert's squad on Saturday night at Climate Pledge Arena. They have another home game to try and bounce back coming up on Wednesday against Toronto. They now have three days off at home to lick their wounds and get back to the winning hockey ways they found early this season.
