Spanish Guard Commits to Washington State to Round Out 2026-27 Roster
Washington State basketball picked up another commitment on Wednesday, as Spanish guard Pedro Sancho Moraga officially signed with the Cougars, becoming the final addition to David Riley's 2026-27 roster.
The 6-1 Sancho Moraga heralds from Valencia, Spain, and spent last season at the Academy of Central Florida after developing through Valencia Basket Academy and later playing for Zentro C.B.'s junior team in Madrid.
There are no publicly available statistics from his season at the Academy of Central Florida. However, during the 2024-25 season while playing professionally in Spain at just 17 years old, Sancho Moraga averaged 2.4 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 15 games. Those numbers don't jump off the page, but Washington State's coaching staff is betting on his potential rather than immediate production.
With Washington State having to rebuild nearly its entire roster following another offseason of heavy transfer portal departures, the Cougars have brought in several experienced guards through the portal who are expected to compete for major minutes right away. That makes Sancho Moraga's role much different than some of the other newcomers.
Sancho Moraga is the third freshman to commit to Washington State, joining Roman Stathis from Australia and Brayden Kyman from California.
Rather than being expected to contribute immediately, Sancho Moraga projects as a developmental player who will need some extra seasoning before he’s ready to make a significant impact in Pullman. His experience adjusting to the North American style of basketball during his prep season in Florida should help ease his transition to the college game, but he'll still need time to adapt to Division I basketball and the American game.
A redshirt season appears to be the most likely path for the freshman guard. With veteran transfers expected to handle most of the backcourt responsibilities this season, Sancho Moraga can spend the year developing his strength, improving his offensive game, and learning David Riley's system without the pressure of contributing immediately.
The addition of Sancho Moraga gives Washington State 15 players on its roster, likely meaning the Cougars are finished adding players for 2026-27. While he may not make an immediate impact on the court, the coaching staff clearly sees upside in Sancho Moraga and hopes he can develop into a contributor in the years to come as the program looks for a bounce back year under Riley.
