The Washington State Cougars men's basketball lost two more names to the transfer portal, as Tomas Thrastarson and Parker Gerrits have announced their decision to enter and pursue a new school for 2026-27.

Thrastarson, a Thorlákshöfn, Iceland native, appeared in 19 games this past season after missing roughly a month and a half due to an ankle injury. He averaged 8.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 43.9% from the field, 28.8% from three-point range, and 73.8% from the free-throw line.

Gerrits originally joined Washington State as a walk-on before eventually earning a scholarship. Known as a strong defender on a team that struggled at times on that end of the floor, he played a limited role during his time in Pullman.

Thrastarson showed promise early in the season before the injury put him on the shelf. Prior to being sidelined, he was averaging over 10 points per game and shooting a more efficient 33.3% from beyond the arc. However, he struggled to regain his rhythm after returning, with his scoring dipping to around six points per game and his three-point shooting falling to 21.4%.

Despite the late-season struggles, Thrastarson did see a significantly expanded role compared to his freshman campaign. His increased minutes led to improved production, as he built upon his earlier averages of 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.

This past season, Gerrits averaged 9.6 minutes per game, producing 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds. Despite the limited offensive production, he showed efficiency from beyond the arc, shooting 37.5% from three-point range. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

In a statement, Gerrits said, “This was one of the hardest decisions of my life. I know it’s time to take my love of the game somewhere new.”

Gerrits’ departure comes after spending two seasons in a bench role following a redshirt year when he first arrived in Pullman. With him and Tharstarson departing, Washington State has now had five players announce plans to enter the transfer portal, including Emmanuel Ugbo, Kase Wynott, and Eemeli Yalaho. The growing list highlights what is shaping up to be a significant roster change for the Cougars this offseason, as they will also lose Simon Hildebrandt and Adria Rodriguez, who are out of eligibility.

As of now, the only publicly known additions for the 2026–27 season are Brayden Kyman and Casey Jones. Jones, who previously played under head coach David Riley at Eastern Washington, is returning from a Mormon mission and will be in Pullman this summer, according to [Cougfan.com](https://247sports.com/college/washington-state/article/david-riley-washington-state-basketball-updates-status-of-forgotten-man-casey-jones-278878402/?ref=emeraldcityspectrum.com). During the 2023–24 season, Jones earned second Team All-Big Sky honors after averaging 12.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He followed Riley to Washington State after Riley was hired as the Cougars’ head coach, bringing familiarity with the system and experience at the collegiate level.

With multiple departures and limited incoming players announced so far, the Cougars are expected to remain active in the transfer portal as they work to rebuild depth and reshape the roster for the upcoming season with hopes of improved success in the new-look Pac-12.
