Sebastian Akins Commits to Washington State

The Washington State Cougars have added another player to their roster for the 2026-27 season, signing former Wake Forest guard Sebastian Akins out of the transfer portal. He just completed his sophomore campaign with the Demon Deacons, starting eight games and averaging 5.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Before transferring to Wake Forest, Akins began his career at Denver, where he had an impressive freshman season. He was named Summit League Rookie of the Year after averaging 12.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

Akins is an athletic guard who excels at getting into the lane and creating plays as a driver. He is a solid ball handler, capable passer, and can finish effectively around the basket. However, his jump shot remains an area for improvement. He is a career 26.5% three-point shooter and struggled from beyond the arc as a sophomore, shooting just 18%.

His minutes fluctuated throughout his lone season at Wake Forest, but he showed flashes of potential, including a season-high 16-point performance in a win against Clemson.

After losing nearly its entire roster from last season—aside from walk-on Dio Blakely and Dominik Robinson—Washington State is clearly in rebuilding mode. Adding a dynamic, athletic guard like Akins is a step in the right direction, as he brings versatility and the ability to contribute minutes at point guard for a backcourt that will look dramatically different in Pullman.
