This summer, Emerald City Spectrum will be taking a look at the Washington State men's basketball roster leading up to a new season, breaking down all 14 players who are expected to suit up for the Cougars in 2025-26.

In part five of the series, we’re examining Kase Wynott, who looks to find a more consistent role with the Cougars going into his sophomore season.

### Kase Wynott, Guard, Sophomore

Wynott, a 6-6, 215-pound sophomore from Lapwai High School in Idaho, came to WSU after an incredible high school career that culminated in him becoming Idaho’s 2024 Gatorade Player of the Year. He led Lapwai to multiple state titles and amassed nearly 3,000 career points. Wynott also became Idaho’s all-time leading scorer. Originally committing to Utah State to play for Danny Sprinkle, he decommitted when Sprinkle took the Washington job, then decided to take his talents to the Palouse.

### Freshman Year Recap

In his debut season with the Cougars, Wynott participated in 24 games and averaged 13.4 minutes per contest. He averaged 1.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game with a field goal percentage of 29.7 percent and a three-point clip of 25.9 percent. Wynott, however, made smart decisions and did a good job moving the ball around, seeming to process the offense quickly. He also was in and out of the lineup due to falling out of the rotation and injuries. But going from the second smallest high school classification in Idaho to the WCC proved to be a tough adjustment.

### Areas for Growth

Wynott does have some versatility to offer, but needs to shoot better from the field in Year 2\. 27 of his 37 shots were from three, and he was 0 for 8 from the free throw line. Improving his strength or improving his ability to get into the lane would be beneficial to get more consistent minutes.

Even though the shooting percentages weren’t great, he came to WSU as a quality shooter. With more consistent minutes and time to get used to the speed of the game, the shooting percentages should increase. Being consistently healthy will help as well. Defensively, he showed some strong IQ, but was towards the bottom of the team in defensive rating and defensive box plus-minus. Added strength and added footspeed are important to improve in those areas.

### 2025‑26 Outlook

Despite a crowded backcourt, Wynott’s size, versatility, and ball handling ability should help him fight for rotation minutes. Having another year to adjust to college basketball should help him, as well as being one of the only players who has previously played under coach David Riley. Also, staying healthy will not only get him more minutes but also put him in more of a rhythm. To get consistent minutes in his sophomore year, he needs to get quicker and stronger. Wynott joins Parker Gerrits, ND Okafor, Tómas Thrastarson, Rihards Vavers as the only returners from last season’s squad.
