With the 2026 season still months away, recruiting for the class of 2027 is already beginning to take shape in Pullman. New Washington State Cougars head coach Kirby Moore has wasted little time putting together the foundation of his first full recruiting class, landing five commitments early in the cycle.

Two of those early pledges come from the West Coast, representing important additions on both sides of the ball as Moore looks to establish the future identity of the program heading into a new-look Pac-12 conference.

What stands out about Wazzu’s two most decorated recruits signed so far in the 2027 recruiting cycle?

### Ryan Harrington, Quarterback

One of the biggest commitments so far for Washington State, Ryan Harrington checks off the quarterback box for Moore coming out of Anacortes, Washington. Harrington is currently rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and chose the Cougars over offers from programs including Cincinnati, Fresno State, Utah State, and Colorado State.

The 6-1, 200-pound Harrington was originally offered by the previous Washington State staff under Jimmy Rogers, but Moore quickly made it clear that keeping the in-state signal caller was a priority after taking over the program. That relationship helped Washington State stay in strong position and ultimately secure the commitment.

The junior quarterback put together an impressive season statistically while showing off the dual-threat ability that has become increasingly valuable in modern offenses. Harrington completed 208 of 307 passes for 3,372 yards through the air while tossing multiple touchdowns and consistently stretching defenses vertically. He also proved capable of creating plays with his legs, carrying the ball 63 times for 521 yards and four touchdowns.

What stands out most about Harrington is the balance in his game. He is athletic enough to escape pressure and extend plays outside the pocket, but he also displays accuracy and confidence as a passer.

With Harrington already committed, it will be interesting to see whether the Cougars pursue a second quarterback in the class. Most staffs prefer to take one quarterback per recruiting cycle, but Rogers and his staff signed two quarterbacks in the 2025 class. Much of that decision could depend on roster numbers and how aggressively Moore wants to continue building depth at the position.

### Josiah Rand, Linebacker

Rand, a 6-2, 200-pound linebacker out of West Hills, California, signed on as Washington State’s first commit for the 2027 class. Another three-star prospect, he also received an offer from Sacramento State in addition to the Cougars.

Although his recruiting profile may still be developing, Rand’s versatility immediately stands out. During his junior season at Chaminade High School, he recorded 50 tackles, one tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble while lining up in several different spots defensively.

Even though he is listed primarily as a linebacker, Rand’s athleticism allows him to move around the field and impact the game in multiple ways. Chaminade used him in different alignments, whether at linebacker, near the line of scrimmage, or in coverage situations. That positional flexibility is something college staffs value heavily.

For Moore and his coaching staff, landing a player like Rand early in the cycle could also help establish recruiting connections in talent-rich California, an area Washington State has traditionally recruited heavily.

### Conclusion

While it is still very early in the 2027 recruiting cycle, Washington State appears to be building a solid foundation under Kirby Moore. Adding an in-state quarterback like Harrington gives the Cougars a talented offensive centerpiece with both arm talent and mobility, while Rand brings versatility and upside from the renowned California pipeline. As Moore continues shaping his first full recruiting class, these early commitments provide an important glimpse into the type of players he hopes to land in Pullman for the future.
