Washington State has officially added the final piece to its 2026-27 men’s basketball roster.

The Cougars landed French big man Mohamed Sankhe, who committed to take his talents to Pullman. According to [CougFan.com](http://cougfan.com/?ref=emeraldcityspectrum.com), the addition had been in the works since April. The 6-foot-10 center becomes the final addition to head coach David Riley’s roster and gives WSU another option in the frontcourt.

Sankhe was the big man Riley had been hinting at throughout the offseason. Originally from Senegal, Sankhe has spent the recent part of his career playing in France, most recently with JA Vichy in Pro B, the second level of professional basketball in the country.

During his time with Vichy, Sankhe showed an ability to contribute on both ends of the floor. He averaged around 5.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in roughly 18 minutes per game while shooting about 55% from the field.

Sankhe has also gained experience playing internationally for France. At the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup, he averaged 7.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. One of his better performances came against the United States, where he scored 10 points while shooting 5-of-7 from the field against a team featuring AJ Dybantsa, Mikel Brown Jr. and Tyran Stokes.

More recently, Sankhe played for France at the U20 European Championships. He averaged 10 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 56% from the field.

For Washington State, the biggest thing Sankhe brings to the roster is size.

The Cougars already have several players capable of playing in the frontcourt, including 6-foot-10 returner Dominik Robinson, 6-foot-8 UNLV transfer Ladji Dembele and 6-foot-9 Northwestern transfer Tyler Kropp. However, Sankhe gives Riley another true post option who can play around the basket and compete on the glass.

Sankhe appears to be more of a traditional post player than the stretch bigs that have become common in Riley’s system. During his most recent professional season, he did not attempt a three-pointer, meaning much of his offensive game comes from inside the paint.

While Dembele can provide more of a stretch element from the frontcourt, Sankhe can potentially give the Cougars someone they can turn to around the basket, similar to how the Cougar staff used ND Okafor last season.

The biggest question will be what Sankhe can provide defensively.

At 6-foot-10, Sankhe has not shown much as a rim protector so far. In 105 minutes at the U20 European Championships, he did not record a block. However, he did show an ability to rebound the ball at a high level. Sankhe averaged 6.8 rebounds in 21 minutes per game, which translates to roughly 13 rebounds per 40 minutes.

With Sankhe joining the roster, Washington State now has a very different-looking team heading into the 2026-27 season. The Cougars will have just one scholarship player returning from last season, making this one of the biggest roster overhauls in recent program history.

Sankhe joins fellow international players Pedro Sancho Moraga and Roman Stathis, along with freshman Brayden Kyman, on Washington State’s roster.

Sankhe, however, could have a chance to contribute immediately because of the lack of big man on the cougars roster , physicality and experience playing at a high level in Europe. With Riley searching for another reliable option in the frontcourt, the 6-foot-10 big man could end up being an important piece of Washington State’s new-look roster.
