Washington State continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail under first-year coach Kirby Moore, as the Cougars added two more commitments to their 2027 recruiting class this weekend heralding from the Golden State.
Pledging their commitments to the program, cornerback Noah Clark from Inglewood High School and edge rusher Sonasi Maka II from Deer Valley High School in Antioch, California, both announced their intentions to take their talents to Pullman.
With the additions of Clark and Maka II, Washington State now has 14 total commitments in its 2027 class. The Cougars have made California a major priority in this recruiting cycle, as nine of those 14 commitments currently come from the Golden State. The entire class is made up of players from the western region of the United States, highlighting the recruiting strategy being used by the Washington State coaching staff.
Clark brings a productive and versatile defensive skill set to Washington State. The 6-0, 175-pound defensive back is currently rated as a three-star recruit and holds an 83 overall rating according to 247Sports. He chose Washington State over several notable programs, including Big 12 member Utah and new Pac 12 members Fresno State, Boise State, and San Diego State, making his commitment an exciting one for Moore’s program.
Although Clark is listed primarily as a cornerback, his athleticism and physicality give him the flexibility to play multiple positions in the secondary. His junior season was very impressive, as he recorded 92 total tackles, three interceptions, and seven pass breakups while consistently making plays in both run support and pass coverage. His ability to contribute in multiple areas of the game makes him an intriguing addition to Washington State's defensive backfield.
For a Washington State defense looking to continue developing playmakers in the secondary, Clark's production and versatility stand out. Defensive backs who can tackle in space and potentially play multiple positions are highly valued, and Clark has shown the ability to do both at a high level.
The Cougars also added size and athleticism to their defensive front with the commitment of Maka. The 6-4, 245-pound edge prospect is currently unranked by 247Sports, but his offer list suggests he is a player attracting significant attention from college programs across the West that would match with a recruit of higher caliber.
Maka II held offers from Pac-12 schools Colorado State, Boise State, and San Diego State, along with Power Four programs California and Utah, before making his decision to sign with Washington State.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Maka II's profile is his athletic background. In addition to playing football, he competed in varsity volleyball during the 2024-25 school year. Multi-sport athletes often bring unique movement skills and athletic traits to the football field, and that appears to be the case with Maka II. He also plays tight end offensively, showcasing his versatility and overall athletic ability.
The additions of Clark and Maka continue a strong recruiting stretch for Washington State as the Cougars build their 2027 class. Clark brings proven production and versatility to the secondary, while Maka II offers size, athleticism, and developmental upside along the defensive line. With 14 commitments already in the class and a strong pipeline established in California, Washington State looks to be laying a strong foundation for the future.
