The Washington State men’s basketball team earned a key commitment Thursday with the addition of Adria Rodriguez, putting a bow on their roster for the upcoming season. The 22-year old guard has been playing professionally in Spain and will join the Cougars as a senior with one year of eligibility remaining.
Bienvenidos Adria!
Welcome to our newest Coug @adria_rodri13 ! Adria is a 6-4 guard arriving as a senior after playing two seasons with @FundLucentum in the Spanish second division. Welcome to Washington State! #GoCougs pic.twitter.com/SdthSGz70j— Washington State Men's Basketball (@WSUCougarsMBB) July 3, 2025
Rodriguez played for HLA Alicante in Spain’s second division, based in Valencia, recently. He averaged 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting an efficient 52.4 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from three-point range, and 62.9 percent from the free throw line.
Away from playing in HLA Alicante, Rodriguez was also a member of Spain’s 2023 FIBA U20 European Championship team, where he averaged 8.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists in seven games.
A 6-4 combo guard, Rodriguez brings versatility to Washington State's backcourt. He’s capable of playing both on and off the ball and uses his size effectively in ball screen situations to create plays. His addition gives the Cougars another reliable option alongside Morehead State transfer Jerone Morton. The ability of both guards to handle and share playmaking duties should provide a boost to the team’s offensive flexibility and open up the playbook.
With professional experience and a proven track record in a competitive league, Rodriguez is expected to be a significant contributor for the Cougars this season.
Last year, Washington State got off to a hot start but struggled down the stretch, finishing 19-15 and 8-10 in West Coast Conference play. Washington State lost Cedric Coward to the NBA draft after being injured for most of the year along with each of their top five leaders in total minutes played due to graduation and the transfer portal.
Rodriguez’s commitment brings Washington State’s roster to 14 players and rounds out what looks to be a complete squad featuring nine newcomers. He joins Morton, sophomore forward Emmanuel Ugbo, junior forward Eemeli Yalaho, senior forward Simon Hildebrandt, freshman forward Dom Robinson, freshman guard Brunel Madzou, freshman guard Aaron Glass, and freshman guard Dio Blakely as the new additions in Pullman.
