The biggest domino of the offseason has fallen for coach David Riley and the Washington State Cougars, as WCC All-Freshman Team selection and Second Team All-West Coast Conference guard Ace Glass has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.

The Rancho Cucamonga, California native was a breakout star this past season, averaging 16.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Glass shot an efficient 45.5% from the field, 36.4% from three-point range, and 88.2% from the free-throw line. He quickly established himself as one of the most dynamic and reliable scorers in the conference, emerging as a centerpiece of the Cougars’ offense.

Known for his ability to score in bunches, Glass brought a skill set that was largely unmatched on the roster — the ability to consistently create his own shot. He was equally comfortable scoring off the dribble or catching and firing, making him a constant threat in both half-court sets and transition.

Glass’ standout performance of the season came in the Maui Invitational, where he erupted for 40 points against Arizona State, showcasing his ability to produce at a high level against Power 4 competition.

With Glass now entering the portal and likely moving on, the Cougars are facing what appears to be a significant roster overhaul. As of publication, the only scholarship players from last year’s roster who have not publicly entered the portal for Washington State are Brunel Madzou, Jerone Morton, and Dominik Robinson, leaving major questions about the roster heading into next year.

In terms of incoming talent, Casey Jones — who is returning from his mission trip — and incoming freshman Brayden Kyman are currently the only publicly known additions. That leaves the coaching staff with considerable work to do in rebuilding the roster through the portal and high school recruiting, which now includes trying to replace the Cougs’ top scorer and most viable future NBA prospect.

Glass is expected to draw significant interest in the transfer portal given his production, efficiency, and the fact that he has three years of eligibility remaining. Programs in need of an immediate-impact scoring guard will likely prioritize him early in the process.

His departure also comes at a pivotal time for Washington State, which is preparing for a new era of competition in the restructured Pac-12\. With a large portion of the roster in flux, the Cougars now face an even greater challenge as they attempt to rebuild and remain competitive in a rapidly changing college basketball landscape.
