Losing their past two games in blowout fashion, the Washington State Cougars enters Week 5 looking to steady their footing as they head to Fort Collins for a Saturday evening matchup against Colorado State at Canvas Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:30 PM PT on CBS Sports Network.

The Cougars enter Week 5 at 2–2 under first-year coach Jimmy Rogers, still searching for rhythm on offense after a September marked by turnover and transition. WSU’s roster features nearly 75 newcomers and only three returning offensive starters from a year ago, leaving transfer quarterback Zevi Eckhaus the task of stabilizing a unit that has averaged just 296 yards per game, one of the lowest marks in the FBS.

The Cougars’ passing game has shown flashes with both Jaxon Potter and Eckhaus receiving starts, but a stagnant rushing attack has produced barely 60 yards per contest, providing limited balance and putting added pressure on the defense. That group, while allowing just 329 yards a game, has struggled at times against the run and enters this weekend with questions about consistency after getting torched by Washington in the Apple Cup last weekend.

Colorado State, 1–2 on the year, has dealt with its own early-season inconsistencies, but will lean on the combination of quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and a ground game averaging 156 yards to challenge Washington State’s defensive front. The Rams have been more effective in the red zone, converting nearly 89 percent of their scoring chances, but penalties have plagued them, with over 76 yards lost per game.

Washington State’s ability to stay disciplined and capitalize on those mistakes could be the difference. Beyond the X’s and O’s, Saturday also marks a visual change for the Cougars, who will debut anthracite road jerseys paired with a gray helmet and matching facemask—a first for the program on the road. Analysts project a close, low-scoring battle, with oddsmakers giving the Rams a narrow edge at home. For Washington State, this trip offers both a test of resilience and an opportunity to seize momentum before diving into conference play with a pair of games against Oregon State looming down the road.
