From Garfield to Montlake: Jimmie Haywood Coming Home to Join Huskies

It has been a great week on Montlake for Washington men's basketball head coach Danny Sprinkle. The Huskies won their season opener Monday, and on Tuesday, they secured their first high school commitment when four-star guard Jimmie Haywood announced he would become a Husky.

His top three schools consisted of Washington, Nevada, and Loyola Marymount, but Haywood didn't have any other publicly listed offers. That's a strange occurrence for such a highly touted recruit, as Haywood is ranked No. 172 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Haywood is originally from the Seattle area, where he played for Garfield High School before transferring to AZ Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, last year.

Loyola Marymount might seem like a strange program to appear alongside Nevada and Washington. However, Lorenzo Romar is an assistant coach at LMU, and he was heavily involved in recruiting in the Seattle basketball scene when he coached at UW.
