Huskies Ride Elijah Brown Experience to First Big Ten Win
The Washington Huskies managed a season-salvaging 38-26 win at Purdue Friday night. How did UW overcome 5 turnovers, and did Elijah Brown do enough to start over Demond Williams Jr.?
It just looked different.
Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but certainly different.
The three touchdown passes by Huskies quarterback Elijah Brown outweighed his three interceptions in a 38-26 win over Purdue Friday night at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana.
His first career UW start coincided with the Huskies' first Big Ten win of the season. A week after throwing for 251 yards in just over a half after starter Demond Williams Jr. departed with a rib injury, the third-year passer posted his first career 300-yard passing day. The third-year transfer from Stanford completed 21 of 27 passes for 302 yards and TD passes to Dezmen Roebuck, Brian Bonner Jr. and Decker DeGraaf.
Aided by a surprise appearance of a running game, the offense compiled 488 total yards. As he did after entering a game Washington trailed 27-3 to Iowa last Friday, Brown got the ball out quickly, though not always to his own team.
“He takes very hard coaching,” Fisch said. “I think he would tell you that, since he arrived here, I’ve been pretty hard on him in terms of his preparation. In terms of making fast decisions. In terms of having a little edge about him. And I’ve never seen a flinch. Ever. In training camp. In fall ball. Whatever it might be. And there was certainly no flinch tonight.”
It helped that Washington's defense had his back.
