SEATTLE, Wash. — The Huskies completed their 15-member men’s basketball roster with a familiar name.

Brandon Roy Jr. — son of Husky legend Brandon Roy — has committed to Washington head basketball coach Danny Sprinkle. A recent graduate of Garfield High School, where his father also played, Roy’s addition puts the roster at the max of 15 players. The 6-2, 160-pound point guard was a toddler when his father’s No. 3 jersey was retired and hoisted into the rafters of Hec Edmundson Pavilion in 2009\.

He announced his commitment on Instagram: "AGTG!!!! In 2009 I watched my father's jersey be retired at UW, not knowing one day I'd get to wear it. Thank you to Coach Sprinkle , staff and the University of Washington for giving me a chance. Thank you to my parents for believing in me."

Roy, who will be a walk-on at Washington, was a member of the WIAA Class 3A state all-tournament second team, where the 21-9 Bulldogs fell to Rainier Beach in the semifinals. He hit four of five 3-point shots as part of 18 points and seven rebounds in a 70-54 quarterfinal win over Bellevue.

Sprinkle may turn to the past some more to build for the future. JJ Crawford, son of former NBA star Jamal Crawford, received an offer recently from the Huskies as he completed his eighth grade season. Will Conroy, who played with the elder Roy on Montlake, also has a Class of 2029 son, Will Conroy Jr., who is gathering recruiting interest. The elder Conroy, who previously served as an assistant coach at Washington, is an assistant coach at USC currently.

Roy Jr. gives the Huskies seven guards for the upcoming season: Desmond Claude, Zoom Diallo, JJ Mandaquit, Courtland Muldrew, Quimari Peterson, Brandon Roy Jr., and Wesley Yates III. Players listed at forward or center include Franck Kepnang, Christian Nitu, Jacob Ognacevic, Jasir Rencher, Lathan Sommerville, Hannes Steinbach, Mady Traore, Bryson Tucker.

### Mandaquit, Steinbach Earn FIBA Nationals Spots

Before JJ Mandaquit and Hannes Steinbach play together on Montlake, they may play against each other at the FIBA U19 World Cup, which begins Saturday in Switzerland. Mandaquit, a 6-4 guard, will play for the US. Steinback, a 6-10 forward, will suit up for Germany during the 16-team tournament. The championship game will be held on July 6.
