The University of Washington and women’s basketball head coach Tina Langley have agreed to a landmark six-year contract extension worth $7.1 million, per The Seattle Times reporter Percy Allen.

With the new deal, Langley will be under contract with the Huskies through the 2031-32 season. The school locked down the coach who has brought the women’s program immense success over the last few seasons.

“Over the past five seasons, we have witnessed the continued ascent of Washington women’s basketball under the leadership of Coach Langley,” UW athletics director Pat Chun said in a press release. “She has distinguished herself as both an exceptional coach and an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have her leading our program and look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established.”

Langley, who previously coached at Rice for six seasons (126-61 overall record), has been with the Huskies since the 2021-22 campaign, inheriting a program that had gone four-straight seasons with a losing record.

Since then, Langley has put the Huskies on a trajectory to compete in the NCAA Tournament. They finished 22-11 in 2025-26 and reached the tournament’s second round before narrowly falling to the No. 3-seeded TCU Horned Frogs, 62-59.

Langley has compiled an 83-71 overall record (.539) since taking over, with her only losing season coming in her first year with the program.

If Langley coaches through her whole contract, she will be the program’s longest-tenured coach since June Daugherty (1996-2007), representing what could be a new long-term era of success for the Huskies.

“I’m so grateful to President Jones, Pat, Erin [O’Connell], and our entire administrative team for the opportunity to continue being a part of the amazing community here at Washington. Their wholehearted commitment and support of our student-athletes and entire program is deeply felt,” Langley said in the release. “It is an honor and a blessing to serve alongside such a high-character group of young women and outstanding coaching staff. Washington is a special place, and we are so excited for what's to come.”

When the Huskies moved to the Big Ten beginning in the 2024-25 season, it was expected that the program might struggle to adjust to the level of competition. Instead, Langley has ensured they’ve only gotten better each year and should continue on that trajectory.

Prior to coaching at Rice, Langley was an assistant coach at Toledo (1998-2003), Clemson (2003-05), Georgia (2005) and Maryland (2008-15).
