The Seattle Seahawks will celebrate their 50th anniversary this coming season. The franchise has plenty of things planned and the team will don patches on their jersey for the occasion. 50 is a nice, round number. It gives us another opportunity for reflection on this entire franchise’s history.

What defines a “top game” in franchise history can mean various things. From dramatic finishes, to record-setting performances, to iconic moments, to playoff performances. This list will have a little bit of everything.

Let’s take a look back at the top 50 games in Seahawks history, starting with 41 through 50:

### 50\. Dec. 23, 2012 - Seahawks Dominate Eventual NFC Champion 49ers

The 2012 season was full of hints of what was to come the following year. People forget how dominant the 2012 49ers were. They went 11-4-1, with the No. 2 ranked defense. They eventually made the Super Bowl. However, it was Seattle that made the statement towards the end of the regular season. The Seahawks jumped out to a 28-6 lead at halftime in front of the rabid hometown crowd. One of those scores was a blocked field goal returned for a 90-yard touchdown by Richard Sherman. He also picked off 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a banner day for the cornerback, while safety Kam Chancellor delivered one of the hardest hits in NFL history on tight end Vernon Davis. Russell Wilson threw for four touchdowns and Marshawn Lynch added a rushing score. Seattle did everything right and pummeled the eventual NFC champions, 42-13\.

### 49\. Sep. 21, 2014 - Super Bowl Rematch in OT

It’s not very often you get a Super Bowl rematch just a few weeks into the next regular season. After the Seahawks squashed the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII (that game might be a tad higher in these rankings), Denver and Seattle met again in Week 3 of the following season. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning threw for over 300 yards, but was picked off once and sacked once. The Broncos tied the game at 20 with less than 20 seconds left in regulation, sending it to overtime. The Seahawks made sure Manning and the Broncos offense didn’t touch the ball in overtime. Wilson orchestrated a 13-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Marshawn Lynch running into the endzone for the walk-off touchdown win. The Seahawks had beaten the high-flying Broncos twice in a four-game span.

### 48\. Oct. 29, 2023 - Jaxon Smith-Njigba Game Winner in Throwbacks vs. Browns

Fans were excited when the Seahawks announced they would resurrect the royal blue, silver, and green throwback uniforms in 2023\. The first game they donned the classic look turned into a slugfest with Cleveland. Seattle watched a 17-7 lead melt away in the second half. The Browns took a late 20-17 lead. Both teams jockeyed for position in the fourth quarter. With just over two minutes left, the Browns were driving to try and ice the upset win. Julian Love intercepted Browns quarterback P.J. Walker to give Seattle life. Geno Smith and company drove down the field as the clock was winding down, still down by three. On the Browns’ nine- yard line, Smith connected with Smith-Njigba for the game-winning touchdown with just 38 seconds left.

### 47\. Jan. 8, 2023 - Seahawks Squeak into Playoffs With Unexpected Help

On the final weekend of the 2022 season, the Seahawks needed a win and some serious help to make the playoffs. First, the Seahawks had to beat the Rams. That was no easy task, as the game went to overtime at 16 apiece. Seattle was able to squeak out a 19-16 win on the foot of Jason Myers. But that was just a part of this important day for Seattle. Everyone in Seattle became Lions fans, as Detroit faced off in Green Bay against the Packers as underdogs that night. Seattle needed the Lions to beat the Packers for the Seahawks to leapfrog Green Bay into the final Wild Card spot. The Lions were 4.5 point underdogs. Things seemed bleak for Seattle. As luck would have it, the Lions pulled off the upset, beating Green Bay 20-16\. That upset win, coupled with Seattle’s win over the Rams, meant the Seahawks earned a wild card berth.

### 46\. Nov. 20, 1994 - Tuten’s Two-Pointer Saves Seahawks vs. Bucs

How often does the punter headline an all-time great game? In the second quarter, Seattle quarterback Rick Mirer connected with Jon Vaughn for their second touchdown of the day. Instead of the traditional extra point, head coach Tom Flores called for a fake. That involved punter/holder Rick Tuten taking the snap and running into the endzone for a fake PAT two-point conversion to make it 15-0\. That would prove to be a big moment. Tampa Bay eventually took an 18-15 lead and a Bucs field goal in the fourth quarter made it 21-15\. Tuten’s two-pointer earlier in the game meant if the Seahawks could score a touchdown, they could go for the win with a PAT kick. That’s exactly what happened. Mack Strong ran into the endzone from seven yards out, with kicker John Kasay connecting with the extra point kick to seal the comeback win. That doesn’t happen without the punter’s successful PAT fake.

### 45\. Nov. 4, 1984 - Four Pick-Sixes in One Game vs. Chiefs

The Seahawks of the 1980s had a few standout defenders. Before there was the Legion of Boom, there was Dave Brown, Keith Simpson, and Kenny Easley. Three different Chiefs quarterbacks threw six total interceptions. Seattle returned four of them for touchdowns. Dave Brown notched two, with returns of 90 and 56 yards. Hall of Famer Kenny Easley hauled in one, returning it for 58 yards. Keith Simpson’s pick six was 76 yards long. Seattle earned the 45-0 victory. Those four pick-sixes set an NFL record that still stands today.

### 44\. Oct. 3, 2019 - Lockett’s Toe-Tap in Action Green vs. Rams

Thursday Night Football is always a spectacle. The crowd in Seattle always knows how to do it big. This go-around, they hosted the defending NFC champion and division rival Rams. The Seahawks came out in their eye-popping action green uniforms. It was an entertaining back-and-forth affair. Late in the first quarter, Seattle drove it down to the Rams’ 13-yard line. Russell Wilson was forced from the pocket and rolled to his left. Throwing across his body, it initially looked like he was just throwing the ball away to prepare for second down. A bright green “16” jersey flashed open in the far, back corner of the endzone and Tyler Lockett made one of the most precise, high-concentration touchdown catches [you will ever see](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdFCe-Mxj-s&ref=emeraldcityspectrum.com). This game contained five lead changes and the Seahawks eventually squeezed out the 30-29 win.

### 43\. Dec. 4, 2016 - Seahawks Wallop Defending MVP Cam Newton

The defending NFC champion Carolina Panthers came to Seattle with reigning MVP Cam Newton. Instead of a showcase for Newton, it was Seattle that did the showcasing. Running back Thomas Rawls ran all over Carolina’s defense for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Lockett even ran for a 75-yard touchdown himself. 240 rushing yards later, the Seahawks destroyed the Panthers 40-7\. The defense kept the explosive Newton in check, allowing under 200 passing yards, under 15 rushing yards, and just one touchdown. It was a Sunday Night Football statement that was felt throughout the league. It also began with a head-scratching decision of Carolina head coach Ron Rivera benching Newton for the first drive. Backup QB Derek Anderson promptly threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage.

### 42\. Dec. 18, 2023 - Drew Lock to Smith-Njigba to Stun Eagles on MNF

It was obvious the Seahawks weren’t going anywhere near a Super Bowl title late in the 2023 season. The defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles came to town and the league flexed the matchup into a Monday Night Football slot. Drew Lock took the start for the injured Geno Smith. Not many expected the Seahawks to beat the Eagles, despite Philadelphia being on a losing skid. Philadelphia took a 17-10 lead in the third quarter. They eventually led 17-13 with less than two minutes left. Lock had one last chance to answer with Seattle’s offense.

The Seahawks faced a 3rd and 10 from their own 37-yard line with 56 seconds left. Lock found DK Metcalf deep down the sidelines for a momentum-swinging 34-yard completion. The Eagles defense wasn’t giving up that easy. They forced another third down for Lock and the Seahawks, this time on the Eagles’ 29-yard line with just 28 seconds left. Lock found Smith-Njigba in the corner of the endzone [for a perfect throw and catch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nttDI90U7y0&ref=emeraldcityspectrum.com) to give Seattle a 20-17 lead with less than 30 seconds left. The defense snuffed out the Eagles’ comeback bid with Julian Love making his second interception of the game. With it being Monday Night Football, in Seattle, against a team most thought would handle the Seahawks, it was a fun night to be a 12\.

### 41\. Oct. 17, 1976 - Seahawks’ First Win as a Franchise

You can’t go too far up the list without acknowledging the first of what are currently 402 wins as a franchise. The Seahawks got off to an 0-5 start in 1976\. They traveled to Tampa Bay for a matchup with the fellow expansion team Bucs. Quarterback Jim Zorn tossed a touchdown to Sam McCullum for the only touchdown the Seahawks got. With a few field goals and a stingy defense, that was enough. Seattle emerged victorious in Tampa, 13-10\. Head coach Jack Patera had earned his first win and the franchise’s first ever.
