Following a stellar 2025 season that resulted in the first All-Star and All-Defensive First Team nods of her career, Seattle Storm wing Gabby Williams has been nominated for the Seattle Women’s Sports Star of the Year award.

The Seattle Sports Commission organizes the award, and there are six total nominees. Past Storm winners include Jewell Lloyd (2023), Breanna Stewart (2018), Anne Donovan (2004), Lauren Jackson (2003) and Sue Bird (2002).

Kate Starbird also won the award in 1997 when the city had the Seattle Reign as its local professional women’s basketball team.

In her fourth season with the Storm, Williams averaged 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.3 steals and 0.5 blocks while playing all 44 games. She posted a league-high 99 steals, just two short of breaking the WNBA’s all-time single-season record.

Williams finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting, behind Co-DPOY winners A’ja Wilson and Alanna Smith.

She is currently an unrestricted free agent heading into this offseason, but was around the team more than any other player before the start of international play. There’s a good chance she is a priority re-signing once the WNBA and the WNBPA can work out a new collective bargaining agreement.

Williams was the most important part of the Storm’s defense last season, even though her offensive output dipped later in the campaign.

The other nominees include the Seattle Reign’s Jordyn Bugg (NWSL), Gonzaga’s Yvonne Ejim (NCAA basketball), WSU’s Emily Lundgren (NCAA swimming), UW’s Amanda and Hana Moll (NCAA track and field) and Seattle University’s Caroline Penner (NCAA soccer).

Voting is available online and is open from Jan. 29 to Feb. 14\. Though she has stiff competition, Williams has a good chance of becoming just the second Storm player to win the award since 2018.
