Seawolves Sign Uruguayan Tighthead Ignacio Péculo
The Seattle Seawolves announced the signing of tighthead prop Ignacio Péculo on Tuesday, the ninth international player that is known to be on the 2026 Seawolves roster. The 26-year-old Péculo is internationally capped with the Uruguayan national team Los Teros, appearing in 24 test matches over five years in addition to logging 131 minutes over three matches in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. When it comes to club play, Péculo played in Uruguay between 2020 and 2023 before appearing in 31 games over two seasons for the Chicago Hounds, according to the North American Rugby Database (NARDb).
Péculo’s 6-3, 280-pound stature makes him a physical force even compared to other tighthead props, and in 2025, he logged around one more tackle per 80 minutes (12.7) than Seawolves starting tighthead Juan Pablo Zeiss (11.7), and Péculo’s lack of card history and record of taking less penalties per 80 minutes (0.4) than Zeiss (1.0) promises potential better composure in that number three role. However, because he lacks some of the aggression in the front row that Zeiss provided, Seattle will be moving to a more methodical approach when he is on the pitch.
Since Péculo will fill one of seven international gameday slots whenever he is part of a matchday 23, it is unclear where he currently fits into the Seattle depth chart. When playing for the Hounds, he tended to be a second half replacement for Charlie Abel, so it’s possible that Seattle will use him similarly - but it’s also possible that Seawolves head coach Allen Clarke wants Péculo as the tone-setter to be followed by Mason Pedersen or 2025 draftee Charlie Walsh.
