While the primary duties at the Seawolves’ number 10 role will be performed by former SaberCat Davy Coetzer for the 2026 season, the team was always going to need a solid secondary guy as injury cover and to provide Coetzer some rest. Enter Dorian Jones, who spent the previous two seasons with the NOLA Gold before that team closed up shop in the summer. Jones has played in 12 games over his MLR career, all starts, and his 74.5% kicking percentage marks an upgrade from where the Seattle flyhalf team and is even slightly higher than Coetzer’s 73.6% rate, according to the North American Rugby Database (NARDb).

Before going over to MLR in 2024, Jones had played a few years in the Pro 14 (now the United Rugby Championship) with the Dragons before stints in the English Premiership and the French Pro D2.

Jones is the 10th international player on the 2026 Seawolves, but with seven international gameday slots, the team will have to pick and choose which players to put on the pitch during any one of the 10 scheduled matches for the 2026 season. We could be looking at a situation were either Coetzer or Jones is rostered for any given game, with each having the same backup but Coetzer appearing alongside an international at another position, while Jones appears alongside a domestic player at that same position.

Seattle now has 26 roster spots publicly filled out of 31 or 32 on the final roster, meaning that there are either five or six further signings to be announced. A full breakdown of the Seawolves’ offseason so far can be found here.
