The Seattle Sounders continue to stockpile money and assets, trading Burkina Faso national winger Georgi Minoungou to the Colorado Rapids for $2 million in general allocation money (GAM) on Thursday, per Niko Moreno of Sounder at Heart and confirmed by Tom Bogert of The Athletic.

Georgi, 23, is one of the most dynamic dribblers in the MLS and is currently on international duty with his country. He came into the league by way of the team's MLS Next Pro side, Tacoma Defiance, before earning a contract through 2029 with the first team. In 34 MLS matches with the team, Georgi scored two goals and picked up 11 starts, usually manning a "super sub" role to add a punch to head coach Brian Schmetzer's offense.

Georgi has been dealing with a lingering foot injury, missing a few games for Seattle before returning to start in [the team's 0-0 draw with Minnesota](https://www.emeraldcityspectrum.com/home/seattle-sounders-draw-minnesota-scoreless-grudge-match) this past Sunday.

His transfer marks the latest in a string of high-profile outbound moves for the Rave Green. All-Star midfielder Obed Vargas pulled in a club record $3 million in his surprise move to Spanish giant Atletico Madrid before the season, while Danny Leyva moved to Liga MX side Nexaca for a reported $1 million in the offseason. Defender Reed Baker-Whiting also transferred to Nashville for $800,000, as GM Craig Waibel has sold plenty of young homegrown talent at solid prices.

With designated winger Pedro de la Vega set to return around the early summer, and Jordan Morris, Jesus Ferreira, Paul Arriola and Paul Rothrock all showing real promise on the wings, Waibel's decision to move Georgi is insured by depth.

As was the talking point with all the other transfers of homegrown talent, the focus now pivots to what Seattle can do with the money it has accumulated. The late-summer transfer window should reshape the Sounders' future as the playoffs roll around — the fans’ desire to see their team pursue a game-changing young striker may hit a new all-time high. Last summer, the Sounders front office talked to numerous U-22 strikers before deciding to abstain and hold onto their money while winning the 2025 Leagues Cup.

For now, the Sounders faithful will have to come to terms with losing a fan favorite. Georgi, despite losing vision in his left eye due to an infection in 2023, always played the game with a smile in the Emerald City. The Sounders are set to visit the Rapids on Sep. 19.
