With the right prospect falling far enough to justify forking over a future draft pick, the Seattle Seahawks slid back into the fifth round to acquire the 148th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, using their newly-added selection on Iowa guard Beau Stephens.

After biding his time as a reserve in his first two seasons on campus in Iowa City, Stephens emerged as one of the best zone blocking guards in college football over the past two years, including earning All-American honors as a senior in 2025\. Along with allowing no sacks and 13 pressures in pass protection, he earned a top-10 zone run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus, spearheading the Hawkeyes run game with a blend of athleticism and physicality.

A technician when it comes to working angles out of the chute in the zone blocking game whose fundamentals allow him to play quicker than his combine testing would suggest, Stephens has mastered the art of getting to his target and winning the position battle against opponents, allowing him to win reps even if he doesn’t physically dominate them. Once he has established position, he’s a fighter who regularly finishes opponents into the turf, including at second level where he loves to cook up pancakes on smaller linebackers and safeties.

In pass protection, Stephens uses his hands well in conjunction with his footwork to keep defenders from getting past him, not panicking if he loses early and demonstrating a penchant for recovering to keep the quarterback clean. Projecting to the pros, length concerns remain significant with barely 31-inch arms, as more athletic NFL interior defenders will put that lack of reach to the ultimate test in both the run and pass game, but playing in a zone-heavy scheme should help mitigate that potential problem.

A proven run blocker coming from a program that has regularly produced quality NFL talent, though he played left guard in his two years as a college starter, Stephens projects to start of his NFL journey in Seattle on the right side, providing competition for incumbent starter Anthony Bradford, who will be entering the final season of his rookie contract. Second-year blocker Bryce Cabeldue should also be in the mix, while ex-Iowa teammate Mason Richman saw some guard and center action in training camp last year as well.

After trading back into the fifth round, the Seahawks have two remaining Day 3 selections in the sixth round at No. 188 and No. 216, which was acquired in a trade down with the Steelers in the third round on Friday.
