With their offseason program all wrapped up, the Seattle Seahawks will open training camp at the VMAC on July 23, meaning the start of the upcoming season will be here before fans have a chance to blink.

In preparation for year number two under coach Mike Macdonald, I’ll be detailing every member of the Seahawks 90-man roster over the next several weeks, dishing out fun facts, exploring best and worst case scenarios, and predicting what to expect from each player entering the 2025 campaign.

Viewed as one of the best run blocking tight ends in college football, will that skill as an inline blocker serve Nick Kallerup well in his pursuit of a roster spot with the Seahawks?

### Nick Kallerup

**Height/Weight**: 6-5, 266 pounds

**2024 Stats**: Nine receptions, 117 yards

After garnering All-State honors at Wayzata High School in Minnesota, Kallerup chose to stay in state by signing with the Golden Gophers, redshirting his first season on campus and playing limited snaps on special teams through the 2021 season. Finally finding his way into the offensive lineup as a redshirt junior, he started four out of 13 games played and caught his first two career receptions, receiving an elite 82.0 run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. He followed up with three receptions on just five targets in 2023, remaining a key lynchpin in Minnesota’s run game as a blocker.

Though Kallerup remained a secondary option at best in the passing game in his final year of eligibility, he set career-highs in receptions and receiving yards while posting a 75 percent catch rate and once again receiving a strong run blocking grade (81.2) from PFF, helping the Golden Gophers rush for 115.6 yards per game as part of an offense that eclipsed 26 points per contest. He finished his college career as an All-Academic Big Ten selection in all five seasons with the program before going undrafted, quickly signing with the Seahawks as an undrafted rookie to compete for a reserve tight end and special teams role.

**Fun Fact**: In two of his final three seasons on campus in Minneapolis, Kallerup ranked among the top seven graded run blocking tight ends by PFF, including finishing third overall among qualified players in 2024.

**Best Case Scenario**: Bringing a bruising presence to the Seahawks’ run game that has been missing in recent seasons, Kallerup impresses the coaching staff functioning like an extra lineman during the preseason and though he’s waived during final roster cuts, the team re-signs him to the practice squad and he dresses for a pair of games as a rookie.

**Worst Case Scenario**: Even with his blocking prowess, Kallerup’s lack of contributions as a receiver, particularly in Klint Kubiak’s offense that has typically utilized the position a lot in the passing game, prevent him from making a move to surpass several of the veteran tight ends and he receives walking papers before the third preseason game.

**What to Expect in 2025**: The Seahawks haven’t been shy voicing their desire to become a more physical football team, whether through the words of Macdonald, Kubiak, and general manager John Schneider or the actions of players added in free agency and the NFL draft. Weighing nearly 270 pounds, Kallerup brings a rugged, blue collar game to the equation that would mesh well with those ambitions, as he’s a capable body mover with enough athleticism to handle zone concepts working against defensive ends and linebackers off the end of the line of scrimmage. He’s also an experienced special teams player with more than 700 snaps in that phase of the game at Minnesota, which could help his cause.

However, Kallerup never reached double digit receptions in a season at Minnesota and produced a grand total of 14 catches during his time on campus. While he was reliable enough with only one career drop, he has simply not offered much in that department and it’s difficult to envision him suddenly becoming a viable target jumping to the NFL. With the likes of Noah Fant, AJ Barner, second round pick Elijah Arroyo, and seasoned veteran Eric Saubert ahead of him, landing a spot on the practice squad may be the ceiling for a one-dimensional blocking tight end with average athletic traits at best.
