With their offseason program all wrapped up, the Seattle Seahawks will open training camp at the VMAC on July 23, meaning the start of the upcoming season will be here before fans have a chance to blink.

In preparation for year number two under coach Mike Macdonald, I’ll be detailing every member of the Seahawks 90-man roster over the next several weeks, dishing out fun facts, exploring best and worst case scenarios, and predicting what to expect from each player entering the 2025 campaign.

After receiving a handful of defensive snaps during the course of his rookie season, does Nehemiah Pritchett have a second year leap on tap that could push him into a more significant role moving forward?

### Nehemiah Pritchett

**Height/Weight**: 6-0, 188 pounds

**2024 Stats**: Eight tackles, one pass breakup

Rated a three-star prospect coming out of Jackson High School in southwestern Alabama, Pritchett signed with Auburn over several other Power 4 programs and appeared in six games as a true freshman in 2019, totaling four tackles. He stepped into a larger role for the Tigers as a sophomore, finishing the 2020 season with 25 total tackles, one interception and 10 passes defensed in 11 games. Playing five seasons at Auburn with an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19, he started for the Tigers in his final three seasons on campus and appeared in 34 games, amassing 86 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and 14 pass breakups.

Pritchett missed the first three games of his final season due to an undisclosed injury, but after running a sub-4.4 40-yard dash at the combine, Seattle picked him to lead off the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, making him the first of two Auburn cornerbacks chosen by the franchise. Thrust into action early in his rookie season due to injuries ahead of him on the depth chart, he generated a pass breakup in a loss to the Giants and produced a season-high five tackles in a road victory over the Falcons before spending most of the second half of the year sidelined as a healthy scratch thanks to the emergence of Josh Jobe.

**Fun Fact**: While Pritchett only returned kicks in one of his five collegiate seasons, he impressed in that role at Auburn in 2021, returning 10 kicks for 307 yards and north of 30 yards per return, which ranked 11th in the nation among qualified FBS kick returners that season according to Pro Football Focus.

**Best Case Scenario**: A year older, wiser, and stronger with a full offseason program under his belt, Pritchett displays dramatic improvements as a tackler in preseason games and gets his hands on an interception, ensuring his spot on the roster as the next in line to play if an injury strikes at one of the boundary cornerback positions for Seattle.

**Worst Case Scenario**: Still struggling to wrap up ball carriers and finish against the run while being susceptible to assignment lapses in coverage, Pritchett finds himself playing deep into the fourth quarter of preseason games while other veterans such as Damarion Williams outplay him, leading to his release as a surprise cut in late August.

**What to Expect in 2025**: Physically and athletically, Pritchett has all of the tools to still develop into a quality NFL cornerback with good size and elite straight line speed. While missed tackles grew into a major frustration for Macdonald and his coaching staff after his first couple of games and paved the way for Jobe to secure a starting nod, he did flash on a handful of plays and his smooth movement skills were evident in coverage going against quality receivers in limited action. He also pitched in two tackles on special teams and has the prerequisite traits to be a solid gunner on punt coverage with improved tackling.

If there’s good news for Pritchett, the Seahawks have more than enough veteran talent in front of him that he can be properly developed behind the scenes this season, continuing to search for better consistency as an all-around defender. After signing Shaquill Griffin to go with Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, and Jobe, the team shouldn’t have to throw him onto the field before he’s ready as was the case last year. However, with three of those players scheduled to be free agents next March, the clock will be ticking for him to turn the corner and progress to the point where he can be trusted to play. It’d be a surprise if he isn’t on the opening day roster, but it’s not a guarantee he will be on the 53 either and has to show true signs of development this summer to stick.
