With their offseason program all wrapped up, the Seattle Seahawks will open training camp at the VMAC on July 23, meaning the start of the upcoming season will be here before fans have a chance to blink.

In preparation for year number two under coach Mike Macdonald, I’ll be detailing every member of the Seahawks 90-man roster over the next several weeks, dishing out fun facts, exploring best and worst case scenarios, and predicting what to expect from each player entering the 2025 campaign.

After an acclaimed college career for FCS program Villanova, does Isas Waxter have a future with the Seahawks as a position-flexible defensive back and special teams ace?

### Isas Waxter

**Height/Weight**: 6-1, 205 pounds

**2024 Stats**: 32 tackles, three forced fumbles, two pass breakups

A multi-sport star at Immaculate Conception High School in New Jersey, Waxter only received one Division I scholarship offer for football, choosing to commit to Villanova. Playing significant snaps early, he started twice in nine games played as a true freshman, including in the FCS playoffs against Southeastern Louisiana. Over the next three years, he played in just a grand total of 15 games due to an abbreviated spring COVID season in 2020 and a torn ACL that cost him the entire 2022 season. But he bounced back nicely from the injury in 2023, earning Second-Team All-CAA honors with 26 tackles, three tackles for loss, three interceptions, and eight pass breakups.

Though Waxter didn’t replicate his interception numbers in his final year of eligibility with the Wildcats, he didn’t allow a single touchdown in coverage and forced three fumbles, continuing to excel as a boundary corner against FCS competition. Rewarded for his stellar play, he received a rare NFL combine invite for a Villanova prospect, running the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds and posting a 35-inch vertical jump. After going undrafted, the Seahawks - who didn’t use any of their 11 draft picks on a cornerback - signed him as a priority free agent with a prime opportunity to compete for snaps behind starters Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, and Josh Jobe.

**Fun Fact**: During the 2023 season, among all qualified FBS and FCS cornerbacks, Waxter ranked fourth in passer rating allowed (30.8) according to Pro Football Focus charting, ranking ahead of Michigan star Will Johnson and future Super Bowl champion Cooper DeJean.

**Best Case Scenario**: Rebounding from a soft tissue injury that limited him during OTAs and mandatory minicamp in June, Waxter holds his own as a physical press cover boundary corner during training camp and the preseason and wins a spot as a gunner on the punt coverage team, earning a spot on the 53-man roster.

**Worst Case Scenario**: Lacking the athletic juice to handle speedy NFL receivers coming up from the FCS level, Waxter gives up several long receptions during training camp and even with positive contributions on special teams, he falls to the bottom of the depth chart and doesn’t return to the practice squad after being waived in final roster cuts.

**What to Expect in 2025**: Starring at Villanova, Waxter demonstrated many of the traits Macdonald has preferred from his cornerbacks over the years, including bringing his hard hat as a reliable tackler against the run game and pitching in a handful of pressures as a blitzer. He allowed just a 50 percent completion percentage for his entire college career and even with average interception numbers, he got his hands on the football frequently in coverage and showcased a knack for punching the ball out of the hands of ball carriers as well, putting more than enough quality skills on film to draw attention from the Seahawks as a viable candidate to compete for a roster spot.

Looking at Seattle’s depth chart, Waxter won’t be leapfrogging over the likes of Woolen, Witherspoon, or Jobe and the recent announced signing of veteran Shaquill Griffin will make it tougher for him to stick around past late August. Still, after losing Tre Brown and Artie Burns in free agency, he has plus size for the position with potential to play safety in a pinch along with special teams capabilities, giving him the tools to be able to push second-year cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett and outperform fellow undrafted rookie Zy Alexander. It remains to be seen if he has what it takes to make the 53, but as long as he can stay healthy, a practice squad spot for continued development looks to be his floor as one of the more intriguing undrafted players in this year’s signing class.
