With their offseason program all wrapped up, the Seattle Seahawks will open training camp at the VMAC on July 23, meaning the start of the upcoming season will be here before fans have a chance to blink.

In preparation for year number two under coach Mike Macdonald, I’ll be detailing every member of the Seahawks 90-man roster over the next several weeks, dishing out fun facts, exploring best and worst case scenarios, and predicting what to expect from each player entering the 2025 campaign.

Once a highly decorated recruit coming out of Alabama, can tackle Amari Kight build off two years as a starter at UCF to give the rest of Seattle’s reserve tackles a run for their money in training camp and the preseason?

### Amari Kight

**Height/Weight**: 6-6, 299 pounds

**2024 Stats**: 13 pressures, four sacks allowed

A consensus four-star recruit, member of ESPN’s Top 300, and an All-American game participant, Kight opted to stay in state by taking his talents from Thompson High School to Tuscaloosa with the Alabama Crimson Tide. While he saw limited action in his in his first two years on campus, including as a true freshman before taking a redshirt, he never could break through as a starter in four years with the program, logging just 164 combined offensive snaps during that span. With two years of eligibility remaining, he transferred to UCF, quickly jumping into the lineup at right tackle and allowing no sacks in his first year with the Knights.

Flipping to the blind side protector role as a super senior, Kight yielded four sacks this past season, but he still posted a respectable 97.7 pass blocking efficiency rate and received a 75.2 run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. He wasn’t invited to any pre-draft all star showcases or the NFL combine and after participating in the Big 12 pro day workout, he went undrafted before signing as a priority free agent with the Seahawks. He spent his time at right tackle during OTAs and mandatory minicamp, but could work on both sides in training camp and the preseason.

**Fun Fact**: One of the best all-around run blocking tackles in college football in 2024, Kight ranked 16th among qualified players in gap blocking grade (72.7) as well as in the top 40 in zone blocking grade (73.9) according to PFF.

**Best Case Scenario**: Leaning on his experience playing six years at the college level, Kight holds up well in pass protection and demonstrates proficiency in Klint Kubiak’s zone-heavy offense during the preseason, beating out seventh round pick Mason Richman for a practice squad spot with the Seahawks.

**Worst Case Scenario**: Lacking the athleticism to handle NFL-caliber edge rushers both out of pass sets and in the run game, Kight doesn’t see much action in the preseason behind Richman, Josh Jones, and Mike Jerrell, leading to his release in final roster cuts without a chance to sign with Seattle’s practice squad.

**What to Expect in 2025**: Given his pedigree as a former All-American selection coming out of high school and two years of solid production at UCF, it isn’t out of the question Kight could surprise in training camp and push the likes of Richman and Jerrell for a backup spot. There may not be a big gap between those three players, even with Richman having four years of starting experience at Iowa and Jerrell having a significantly better athletic profile than either of the other two competitors, and if he’s able to handle wide zone blocking in the run game, he has enough talent to potentially make some noise.

However, Kight did not test well at the Big 12 pro day, including scoring poorly in both the 3-cone drill and short shuttle, and those mobility issues were noticeable going against quality speed rushers at left tackle last season. He also has a lean frame weighing under 300 pounds with sawed-off 33-inch arms, clear physical and athletic limitations that contributed to him going undrafted. Without any traits that jump off his college film, it’s hard to imagine that he will be able to seriously push the rest of the competition ahead of him in regard to a spot on the 53\. At best, with a strong showing in the preseason, he may be able to latch onto the 16-player practice squad, depending what happens with Richman and Jerrell.
