The Seattle Kraken haven’t had a true alternate uniform since beginning play in 2022, but that could change with a pending announcement in October. [/caption]
The Seattle Kraken dropped a social media post that had fans buzzing this week. Amid a stretch where the franchise found a new head coach in Lane Lambert and executed a front office shakeup, fans are looking for something to get excited about. The Kraken have only made the playoffs once in their four-year existence and fans are getting antsy.
So, what would the social media post be about? What is “stirring in the deep” and coming “October 2025?”

You know what distracts a fanbase from the struggles of the organization? New uniforms!
I don’t expect the Kraken to go through a full-scale rebrand. The Kraken have fantastic uniforms. The Hockey Writers ranked the Kraken’s white road uniforms as the seventh-best look in the entire NHL. However, there is some uncertainty regarding their alternate uniforms.
We all remember the Winter Classic played at the Mariners’ T-Mobile Park on January 1, 2024. It was a rousing success on and off the ice. Seattle shut out the defending Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights 3-0 in what was goalie Joey Daccord’s coming-out party. Their Winter Classic uniforms also were a hit, with an homage to the 1917 Stanley Cup champion Seattle Metropolitans.
However, not everyone was flattered with the faux-back uniforms the Kraken rocked that day. Seattle-area entrepreneur Paul Kim owns the Seattle Metropolitans trademark and filed a lawsuit following the reveal of the Winter Classic look.
Last month, the Kraken announced that they had reached a settlement regarding the lawsuit. No additional details were provided.
Perhaps, this lawsuit sparked the franchise into creating a new alternate look. Most NHL franchises have their classic home and away kits, with an alternate or throwback mixed in for a third option. If the Winter Classic uniforms are no longer an option, perhaps the Kraken cooked up new ones.
In fact, according to NHLUniforms.com, the Kraken are one of just 10 NHL franchises without an “alternate” option to their home or away looks. That is nine if you don’t count the newly minted Utah Mammoth.
Could this announcement coming in October be a fun, new alternate uniform to open the Lambert era? If so, what will it be?
For starters, it seems they either will lean heavier into the Metropolitans lore, with the settled lawsuit in the rearview mirror, or they will completely steer clear of it. Again, the terms of that settlement are not known. Perhaps they go for a “City Connect” vibe, incorporating some of the other colors of fellow Seattle teams such as the Seahawks, Mariners, or Sounders. Or, would they dare brandish a Sonics-themed look?
One idea is making the anchor/Space Needle logo more prominent. As of now, it is on the shoulders of their default uniforms. It is a fantastic logo. Perhaps the alternate uniform will stay true to the original Kraken colors and just switch out the “S” on the chest for the “anchor needle.”
Or do they lean heavier into the official team color “red alert”? Red has just been a subtle accent to their merchandise so far. Maybe they go bold with a prominently red look.
This announcement might not even about uniforms. However, the fanbase certainly thinks it’s regarding adding some threads to the closet, so it will bear watching.
