Making a move before the start of training camp, the Seattle Kraken acquired Jon-Randall Avon from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Tucker Robertson on Thursday.

Avon spent the past two seasons with Philadelphia’s AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley, scoring 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 60 games last season and 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in 65 games during the 2023-24 season. The 22-year old forward went undrafted out of the OHL in 2021, where he was a point-per-game player with the Peterborough Petes in his final two seasons (2021-22 and 2022-23).

Coincidentally, Avon and Robertson were teammates in Peterborough, with the duo among the team’s top three scorers in their final two seasons. Robertson led the Petes with 90 points in 68 games in 2022-23 before spending most of the next two years with Coachella Valley, Seattle’s AHL affiliate.

A 2022 fourth-round pick of Seattle, Robertson, 22, scored four goals and nine points in 38 games with the Firebirds this past season. He scored at a similar clip in 2023-24 (10 points in 39 games) and also spent time with the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks, where he scored four goals and 14 points in 13 games.

Purely an organizational depth trade between the two organizations involved before camp begins, the former junior teammates get a change of scenery as they each try to progress in their careers with hopes of eventually making it to the NHL.
