The Seattle Storm [made their first round of roster cuts](https://storm.wnba.com/news/storm-waive-jalyn-brown-elle-ladine-and-beatrice-mompremier?ref=emeraldcityspectrum.com) on Thursday, waiving forward Beatrice Mompremier and guards Jalyn Brown and Elle Ladine, the team announced.

Seattle’s cuts bring their current roster down to 16 players, meaning the team only has to let go of two other players before the regular season begins. Under the new CBA, teams are required to keep 12 players on their active roster and now have access to two developmental roster spots.

Of the three players cut on Thursday, Ladine played the most in the Storm’s pair of preseason games. She combined to play 12 minutes, scoring four points (1 of 4 FG) and adding one rebound and one steal.

Ladine played her entire four-year college career at the University of Washington, making her a hometown favorite this preseason with the Storm. However, after loading up on backcourt talent in free agency and the WNBA Draft, there was stiff competition for a roster spot.

The same went for former Michigan State standout Jalyn Brown, and she only played four total minutes in the preseason — both of which came in the Storm’s [91-81 victory over the Portland Fire](https://www.emeraldcityspectrum.com/home/storms-young-stars-shine-in-decisive-preseason-victory-vs-fire) on Wednesday, April 29\. Brown finished with three rebounds and an assist.

Mompremier also made her lone appearance in the latter game, playing two minutes, but she didn’t log any statistics. She missed her only shot attempt.

Entering training camp, Mompremier, a 2020 second-round pick, had the most WNBA experience among the players who were cut, but she’s also 29 years old and hasn’t played in the league since 2022.

Storm head coach Sonia Raman had many players to evaluate while also trying to give her projected starters enough minutes to mesh together. That’s a difficult balance, and it unfortunately means that players on the outside of the roster bubble sometimes don’t get much time to prove themselves.

### **Who else will be cut?**

At this stage, we have 11 roster locks established for the Storm’s 12-player roster. That leaves one prove-it spot and an additional two for players with less than three years of experience who can be stashed.

#### **Current roster locks**

- F/C Dominique Malonga
- C Stefanie Dolson
- C Ezi Magbegor
- F/C Awa Fam Thiam
- G/F Katie Lou Samuelson
- G/F Jordan Horston
- G Flau’jae Johnson
- G Jade Melbourne
- G Natisha Hiedeman
- G Lexie Brown
- G Zia Cooke

#### **Roster bubble players**

**\** denotes player eligible for developmental spot*

- F/C Mackenzie Holmes\*
- F Grace VanSlooten\*
- G Jaelyn Brown\*
- G/F Rennia Davis
- G Taina Mair\*

Davis, despite not being eligible for a developmental spot, would be a really hard player to cut. She played exceptionally well in the preseason in limited minutes, looking every bit of a former 2021 No. 9 overall pick. Davis played a combined 17 minutes and totaled 13 points (6 of 8 FG), six rebounds and one assist.

However, if they keep Davis on the roster, they will have to let go of one of their drafted rookies or Holmes. With Magbegor out to begin the season and Fam’s arrival date still unknown, Raman likely needs to keep more frontcourt depth on the initial roster.

Two scenarios wouldn’t be shocking. The first is keeping Davis on the roster and stashing Mair and Holmes. The other would be cutting Davis and Brown, keeping Holmes on the active roster and stashing VanSlooten and Mair.

VanSlooten hasn’t played great, but she’s an immediate frontcourt option. Keeping Davis instead makes the Storm a better team in 2026, but they may lack depth in the frontcourt to begin the regular season.

Mair should be in a developmental spot regardless. She’s shown poise as a passer and could be a legitimate point guard option in future seasons.

The Storm must have their roster cut down by Thursday, May 7, ahead of the regular season opener against the Golden State Valkyries the next day.
