Seattle Reign FC came out of the international break with a tough home loss to one of the top teams in the league in Orlando. In a match that didn’t lack for opportunities to score for either team, it was Orlando that would capitalize with a 41st minute strike from Barbra Banda.

Reign coach Laura Harvey made some tactical changes to try and get a result, but those efforts just fell short. Here is how Seattle fared individually in the loss:

### Claudia Dickey - 7

Dickey was called upon multiple times, and made a couple key saves on the goal. While there was not much she could do on the finish, there will be questions asked about the inability to stop the cross from coming in from the end line, as you would expect a goalie of her quality to protect her back line a little better than that. Other than that blip, she was rock solid, good with her feet when needed, and held one of the top scoring teams in NWSL to only one goal.

### Lauren Barnes - 6

Barnes had her hands full dealing with both Marta and Summer Yates on the Orlando left side, as they often overloaded on that side making it a tough assignment for the veteran. She mostly did her job, but got beat once on the dribble that allowed Yates to get her cross in to Banda for Orlando, which would end up being the difference in the game.

### Jordyn Bugg - 7

Once again, a solid showing from one of Seattle’s youngest players. Bugg does not look like an 18-year old in her first full professional season. Having to deal with one of the best offensive teams in the league and basically locking everything down besides the one goal, which she had no part to play, is quite impressive and she is quickly becoming one of the first names on the team sheet for Harvey.

### Phoebe McClernon - 6

Like the rest of her defensive counterparts, McClernon had a monumental task on her hands in keeping the talented Pride attack in check. For the most part, she did what she needed to do, keeping the shots on goal to a minimum and keeping everything in front of her and not allowing Orlando’s dynamic forwards to get in behind. On the goal, there could be questions asked about the marking to allow Barbra Banda to get free, but the issue was more in defending the cross rather than the finish, so not a big negative in an otherwise solid showing from Seattle’s center back pairing.

### Madison Curry - 6

Curry was the least busy of the two outside backs. As mentioned before, most of Orlando’s offense funneled through the right side of Seattle’s defense. Part of that can be credited to the ability of Curry to shut down almost anything that came down her side, but part of that also can be because Orlando’s main playmaker, Marta, prefers to start on the left and cut in. It seems early on with the focus on defense for Seattle, there has been less of an emphasis to have the outside backs get involved in the attack, but at some point there will need to be more goal scoring from this team, and that might be a way to get more offense in the side.

### Nérilia Mondésir - 6

The Haitian international did an excellent job in connecting the defensive block to adding transition offensive opportunities for Reign FC. Even with her ability to carry the ball forward and be the main threat for Seattle on the dribble in 1-on-1 situations, Mondésir had trouble with her passing accuracy. She does an excellent job creating opportunities with her skill on the dribble, but having a passing accuracy of 42% (8/19) is not something you want to see from a starting midfielder. Thankfully, most of those missed passes were higher up the field and not in a situation where a giveaway would hurt the Reign, but if she is going to be an important part of this offense going forward, there has to be an emphasis on keeping possession.

### Samantha Meza - 6

Everything that was said about Mondésir, the opposite could be said of Samantha Meza. She is extremely accurate with her passes and rarely takes a risk when not necessary. The downside is that she rarely takes the opportunity to carry the ball into space and take on defenders when a chance is needed to be created. It is positive that Seattle has a good balance in the midfield with someone who is more dynamic and willing to take risks in Mondésir, and also someone who just keeps possession and gets it to another person to create opportunities. The only issue with that is players become much more predictable and easier to plan for, so hopefully there starts to be some development in both players moving forward.

### Maddie Dahlien - 8

Seattle’s best player in the match. A huge performance on both sides of the ball, especially defensively from Dahlien. She was everywhere seemingly like there were clones of her on the field on Saturday, getting behind the ball on defense, putting in tackles, but also getting forward, getting shots off, and more. This was an excellent display of what makes the 20-year old so valuable: the ability to be a positive at both ends of the field, which is so rare in today’s game.

### Ainsley McCammon - 6

One thing seems very apparent that is different from previous years: there is a willingness to rely on young players at the highest level as the 17-year old made her second professional start on Saturday. There were definite moments where McCammon looked like her age, which is by no means a knock on her performance. Could she have gotten more involved? Sure, but she also didn’t look out of place, which is an accomplishment in itself against such a quality opponent at her age.

### Madison Mercado - 7

The international break seemed to come at possibly the worst time for the 24-year old forward. Mercado was just starting to find her groove and ability to connect with other players in the team and was an instrumental presence in Seattle’s only win of the season vs North Carolina. Now it seems she has to find her momentum once again, especially with the return of Jordyn Huitema to the starting 11\. Hopefully she is able to find her form again, but Saturday was by no means a performance to be ashamed of. We just have seen more from her this season.

### Jordyn Huitema - 5

For whatever reason, Huitema just can’t seem to get herself integrated with this years version of Seattle Reign FC. It seems that every time she is looking for service in the box, which is where she thrives, the creator opts to take a shot themselves or work the ball back into midfield. The life of a striker can be like that sometimes, so the question is who is head coach Laura Harvey going to ask to adjust their game: the players around her to feed her more often and get more volume of opportunities, or for Jordyn to adapt her game and be more of a cog in the buildup instead of just a poacher who hangs around in the box waiting for opportunities to score? Whatever the answer is, there has to be a change because what they are getting out of her right now can’t continue.

### Lynn Biyendolo - 6

Seattle’s big offseason acquisition made her season debut as a halftime sub for Huitema. She looked relatively comfortable coming off injury, but there has to be a grace period for fans to allow her to integrate into the squad. While she may not have made a huge impact in a game where Seattle was down and needed a goal, it’s slightly unfair to ask her to come into her first game at a new club to come in and save the day.
