Jerone Morton Departs as Cougars Continue to Lose Talent to Transfer Portal

The transfer portal has struck again for Washington State, as the Cougars have now lost two of the four remaining players from the 2025-2026 season.

According to 247Sports, both Jerone Morton and Brunel Madzou have entered the transfer portal, leaving the Cougars with only one scholarship player - Dominik Robinson - still on the roster from last year’s team.

Morton, a transfer from Morehead State, spent one season in Pullman and put together a solid campaign. He started the majority of the year, averaging 7.8 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game. He proved to be an efficient shooter from beyond the arc, knocking down 38.8% of his three-point attempts on 2.5 attempts per game. His shooting improved significantly during conference play, where he hit 48.1% from three after struggling with consistency in non-conference games.

With Morton’s departure, the Cougars lose a valuable secondary ball handler and a reliable perimeter shooter, which will only be further magnified after star freshman Ace Glass announced his intention to enter the transfer portal one week earlier.

Madzou, a redshirt freshman guard from Helsinki, Finland, did not appear in a game last season. But with all of the departures already happening this offseason, he would have been in position to potentially see significant game action next season. Instead, he will look for a new landing spot as well.

Away from Robinson and walk-on Dio Blakely, the only publicly known additions at this time for Washington State are former Eastern Washington player Casey Jones and Brayden Kyman, who will each join the program next season.

Additionally, Tobias Bass of The Athletic reports that RJ Jones, a guard out of TCU, is scheduled to visit Washington State on Friday, providing an opportunity for the Cougars to land their first quality transfer addition of the spring as coach David Riley attempts to rebuild the roster heading into year one of the new-look Pac-12.
