SEATTLE, Wash. — There was no messing around on this particular Saturday.

The Washington Huskies dominated from the opening kickoff, doing even more than they’re supposed to do against an FCS opponent. UW scored touchdowns on all nine of its offensive possessions, piling up 628 yards and 34 first downs — second most in team history — to win its 22nd straight game at home and improve to 2-0 in 2025\.

There was no slow start. No taking a lesser opponent lightly. The Huskies simply drove the Aggies (1-1) into the ground and made sure they stayed down.

“I just came down to our mentality at the end of the day,” said senior running back Jonah Coleman, who tied a modern-day Washington record by scoring five touchdowns in one game. “You know, we took it as if we were playing one of the top teams in the nation. At the end of the day, we knew we were the better team, and knew they couldn’t handle us.”

The 70 points were the most ever scored at Husky Stadium since World War II, and it tied the 70 Washington scored in a 70-21 win at Oregon in 2016\.

“Really proud of the way we played tonight,” Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch said after the game. “I thought, really, overall as a team, we couldn’t have done many things better than we did.”

Though he played just a little over a half as the game got out of hand, Coleman stole the show, scoring five touchdowns on just 15 carries. Coleman became the first Washington running back since World War I to cross the goal line five times, joining Corey Dillon (1996 vs. UCLA) and Hugh McElhenny (1950 vs. Washington State). He rushed for 111 yards, pushing his career total across the 2,500 mark to 2,584\.

Coleman scored on runs of 15, 1, 9, 7 and 5 yards, the final of which put UW up 49-10 with 11:31 to go in the third quarter. Though it would have been considered cruelty to Aggies if he had a few more carries, Coleman almost certainly could have etched his name next to Ervin Daily, who scored seven times in 1919 in a 120-0 win over Whitman.

“You give Jonah the rock, he just makes it happen,” said receiver Denzel Boston, who returned a punt for a 78-yard touchdown to give Washington a 42-10 lead going into halftime and also caught five passes for 50 yards. “… When you got a guy like that in the backfield, anything can happen, and it just adds so much electricity to our offense.”

There was never a threat of losing this one, like Jimmy Lake’s UW team did when it fell to Montana in 2021\. And UC Davis never had a chance on Saturday to beat an FBS team the way the Aggies did in 2005 when they shocked Stanford. Washington rushed for 324 yards, including 14 rushes for 95 yards and a TD by sophomore Adam Mohammed. Demond Williams Jr. added eight carries for 64 yards and completed 16 of 25 passes for 254 yards and a score.

The only thing that stopped the offense was not getting on the field. Boston kept his fellow offensive players on the sideline with his big punt return, which Coleman all but ordered him to do, telling him it was time to take one to the house.

“I’ve always been about special teams,” Boston told the Emerald City Spectrum. “It’s important to me. I built my career off special teams when I was a freshman playing all four phases.”

The Huskies head into the bye, riding high as they prepare to travel to Pullman in an effort to take back the Apple Cup on Sept. 20 after losing the game last year a Lumen Field in Seattle.

While the Aggies ran some creative misdirection plays to score 10 first-half points, Washington dominated in every phase. The Aggies managed just 218 total yards, and Washington shut them out despite playing a lot of backups in the second half.

Jacob Lane and Zach Durfee each sacked UCD quarterback Caden Pinnick and created problems on the edges for much of the first half.

### True Freshmen Get More Work

John Mills once again started at left guard. After six true freshmen played last week (Mills, receiver Raiden Vines-Bright, receiver Dezmen Roebuck, cornerback Dylan Robinson, edge Devin Hyde, safety Rylon Dillard-Allen, four more got in this week. Receiver Chris Lawson got open deep a couple of times and caught a 22-yard pass from senior backup quarterback Kai Horton. Champ Taulealea played right guard in the second half, and Ramonz Adams Jr. and D’Aryhian Clemons saw time at cornerback.

### Rashid Williams Injury

Sophomore receiver Rashid Williams caught a pass for 27 yards, and then went to the locker room with an apparent arm injury. He emerged from the tunnel later, out of uniform, wearing a brace.

“We’ll know better tomorrow after we get an MRI and an X-Ray, but it didn’t look great,” Fisch said. “So, we’ll just kind of wait and see what that means. But, you know, I would assume he’ll be out at least for the next few weeks,”

Teammates consoled Williams when he came back to the field after being checked out by trainers.

“It definitely sucks,” Boston said. “That’s my brother, man. You know, I feel like we have a certain kind of bond and connection that we really do have together. I’m going to call him right after the game.”

Cornerback Tacario Davis left the game after being shaken up when he hit the ground after a diving interception, but Fisch said he should be good for the Apple Cup.

### What’s Next For The Huskies

The natural question is, what will the Huskies look like against Big Ten teams? They’ll find out on Sept. 27 when Ohio State — currently ranked No. 1, visits Husky Stadium. The Buckeyes beat Grambling 70-0 on Saturday. First, though, Washington has the bye followed by a trip to the Palouse.
