It’s not even December, yet Seattle Storm forward Gabby Williams is already trying to influence the team’s draft outcomes in April — at least sarcastically.

Williams appeared in the [latest episode of the Fudd Around and Find Out podcast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y9v81pfZMM&ref=emeraldcityspectrum.com), hosted by UConn star Azzi Fudd, and made it clear she wants the Storm to get Fudd on the team in 2026.

“I’m really wondering how Azzi’s gonna play this year, you know. I mean, I want you to have a great season, but not too good … If you want to go post-top-2, that would be really cool. I don’t know, just an idea.”

Williams’ initial sarcastic comment comes from the potential that Fudd will be going No. 1 overall to the Dallas Wings in the upcoming draft. Fudd played with current Wings star and 2025 top pick Paige Bueckers at UConn, and the two have been open about being in a relationship.

It’s possible that kind of relationship could make a professional sports franchise avoid selecting a player. But the allure of putting one of the best college backcourts in recent memory back together may be too good an opportunity to pass up.

Fudd is averaging 21.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals in the early stretch of the season for the Huskies. She’s climbing up the list of potential top picks and may emerge as the consensus pick by the end of the college season.

The Storm have to look at all their options, even if Fudd is available, but it’s more likely she will be off the board by the time Seattle picks at No. 3 overall. TCU star Olivia Miles was the [favorite to end up with the Storm last season](https://www.emeraldcityspectrum.com/home/analysis-is-olivia-miles-still-best-option-for-storm-at-no-3-overall) before returning to college.

If anything, Williams’ lobbying for Fudd joining the Storm affirms her commitment to the team during an uncertain offseason for the entire WNBA.

Williams even said she’s been by far the most present player in the early part of the offseason, which is how she ended up representing the Storm at the draft.

“I’ve kind of just been around all offseason. I’m kind of like the only one there \[at the team facility\]. Me and our video person have been kind of joking like, ‘I wonder if everyone’s kind of sick of me.’” Williams said with a laugh. “Like I’ve been the only person kind of in Seattle.”

That’s reassuring for the prospects of the Storm getting Williams back in free agency. She’s clued in on what the team is doing moving forward, and she’s been one of the only players in the building since the season ended in September.

The idea of Fudd and Williams building around 2025 No. 2 overall pick Dominique Malonga is intriguing, but a lot has to unfold before that’s a potential reality for Seattle.
