A strong 2026 recruiting class for the Washington Huskies received another boost on Thursday with the addition of Mason James, a four-star receiver out of Norman North High School in Oklahoma.

Making his announcement in his high school gym — about three miles from the University of Oklahoma’s football stadium — James chose Washington over Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Missouri, and Arizona State during a live video announcement. It was the third commit head coach Jedd Fisch received this week, following the additions of Dre Pollard, a three-star athlete out of Ed W. Clark High School in Las Vegas, and Sam Vyhlidal, a three-star tight end/defensive end from Mountainside H.S. in Beaverton, Oregon.

According to 247Sports, the Huskies sit at 14th in the 2026 recruiting rankings. The highest rank in modern Washington history is No. 15, which Chris Petersen achieved in 2019\. Per the outlet, James is ranked as the 25th overall receiver prospect in the 2026 class.

“I love the whole entire coaching staff,” James said, sitting at a table with his family in front of hats from his final seven college program selections. “Coach Fisch — I love the way he calls the plays. (Receiver coach) Kevin Cummings, (offensive analyst) Caleb Wilson — those are my guys. Coach Cummings, the wide receivers coach, has a lot of great backgrounds with wide receivers similar to my skill set.”

James’ skill set starts with speed and quickness. The 5-10, 175-pound track athlete also displays excellent football speed. He projects as a slot receiver who can use his elusiveness during screens and across the middle, but he also has the ability to get behind corners on the outside. James tracks the ball well and is willing to absorb contact.

James showed a video before announcing he would commit to Washington, thanking family, friends and coaches who had helped him along the way. He then pulled off a sweatshirt to reveal a UW baseball-style jersey with a script “Huskies” on the front.

James said during the webcast that he liked the way his family was treated by UW “since Day 1,” which included working with his two younger brothers.

“They showed me the exact plan that I was going to have,” James said. “Coach Fisch has been really involved with my recruitment through the entire way. … Really just the way that I feel like I can fit into the offense, and the players that they’ve coached for in their offense, I feel like I’m a really great fit.”

Earlier in the week, Fisch added Pollard, a 6-0, 175-pound athlete who has excelled at cornerback, wide receiver, and running back. Pollard is another speedster, who has reportedly run a 4.37-second 40-yard dash and 10.61 in the 100 meters as a track athlete. Pollard joins high school teammate Dom Harris, an offensive lineman who committed to the Huskies on June 1\.

Vyhlidal was also a versatile player at Mountainside. At 6-4, 225 pounds, he's likely to be a tight end for the Huskies, but Vyhlidal also created havoc as a defensive end. He played a role similar to Penn State’s Tyler Warren last year, playing on the line, on the outside as a receiver and often behind center as a wildcat quarterback.
