Capturing the Lombardi Trophy for only the second time in franchise history in Sunday’s 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, the Seattle Seahawks understandably haven’t finished celebrating a historic milestone for the franchise, with the much-anticipated parade in downtown coming on Wednesday.

But the NFL never stops and after making his rounds at various stops such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald will have to shift his focus quickly towards the upcoming season with the rest of the league already deep into offseason mode, starting with a major vacancy to fill on his coaching staff. After Sunday’s victory, as expected, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak accepted the Raiders’ head coaching job, leaving Seattle on the hunt for a third play caller in as many offseasons.

Speaking with hosts Mike Salk and Brock Huard on Seattle Sports 710 for the final time this season on Tuesday morning, Macdonald indicated that while the Seahawks desire “continuity” on the coaching staff, they won’t leave a stone unturned and will explore their options outside of the organization much as they did last year before ultimately hiring Kubiak to replace Ryan Grubb.

“Ultimately, we want to be a place where we can create an environment where, if we do a great job and we do what we’re supposed to do, we can create opportunities for our own people and keep growing our people,” Macdonald told Salk and Huard. “But that doesn’t mean we’re not gonna augment our staff from people that are out there. I mean, we’re always gonna do that. But right now, that’s where my mind is.”

Based on Macdonald’s response, Seattle clearly would prefer this time around to promote and hire from within. But they have also have sights on outside options to ensure they make the best hire.

Which candidates outside of the Seahawks’ organization are on the radar? Here’s a look at pros and cons for each reported interview for external coordinator

### Brian Fleury

Likely appealing to Macdonald, Fleury actually began his NFL coaching career on the defensive side of the football, working as the Bills’ defensive quality control coach in 2013 before coaching linebackers with the Browns in 2015 and 2016\. After a three-year stint with the Dolphins where he stepped away from typical assistant coaching roles as a director of football research, he returned to the sideline as a defensive quality control coach for the 49ers in 2019\. That’s where he made his pivot to the offensive side of the ball, as Kyle Shanahan slid him to offensive quality control for two seasons before transitioning to tight end coach from 2022 to 2024 and most recently earning the promotion to run game coordinator while continuing to work with tight ends last season.

Looking at Fleury’s resume, his lack of play calling experience at any level stands out as a significant red flag. But several of Seattle’s in-house candidates, including quarterback coach Andrew Janocko, haven’t called plays at any level either. What works in the 47-year-old’s favor is his extensive experience in Shanahan’s offense, including having a deeper tie to the scheme as a run game coordinator last year, as well as his understanding of attacking defensive schemes, which will be feathers in his cap in the interview process. Pairing him with offensive line coach John Benton, who was on the same San Francisco staff with him back in 2019, along with pass game coordinator Jake Peetz would give him his best chance at success building an offensive with elements of both Shanahan and Sean McVay’s systems.

### Connor Senger

One of the brightest young coaches in the NFL, the 30-year-old Senger has climbed rapidly up the coaching ladder in Arizona, managing to survive multiple regime changes. Cutting his teeth as a quarterback and running back coach in three separate Division III stops at Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Carroll University, and Wisconsin-Whitewater, he made his first big jump in 2020 by joining North Dakota State’s staff as an offensive quality control coach, with his two-year tenure coinciding with current Seahawks starting offensive linemen Grey Zabel and Jalen Sundell being in the starting lineup for the Bison. After two successful seasons in Fargo, he joined the Cardinals as a Bill Bidwell Fellowship recipient, working with quarterbacks in his first year with the team.

Since then, Arizona has kept Senger on the staff, retaining him after the hire of Johnathan Gannon in 2023 as an offensive quality control coach. Over the past two years, he has been elevated to an assistant quarterback coach and most recently a pass game specialist for the Cardinals, wearing several hats in his short tenure in the desert. While Kyler Murray and Jacoby Brissett didn’t have strong 2025 seasons, Murray threw 21 touchdown passes with Senger as one of his coaches in 2024\. Like Fleury, he has never been a play caller at any level, and he doesn’t have any notable connections to Seattle’s current coaching staff. But he has coached multiple positions on the offensive side of the football and his past ties to the run game as well as Sundell and Zabel give him some intriguing advantages as an outside-the-box candidate for Seattle to strongly consider.
