Big Ten Picks: Huskies Hope to Avoid Being Husked on Halloween
A battered Washington Huskies football team heads to Nebraska to try for a second straight Big Ten win. Will it be Demond Williams Jr. or Elijah Brown at quarterback, and who else will win in the conference Saturday.
The first sports editor I ever had told me that I was to, under no circumstances, make any Halloween references for games played on or around Oct. 31
"It's been done to death," he said, while not laughing with me.
So, I'll avoid any horror movie references, even though Stephen King's setting for "Children of the Corn" was a fictional Nebraska town.
The Nebraska town UW will visit on Saturday is all too real, and Lincoln will be ready for the Huskies (4-3 overall, 1-3 Big Ten). Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen – who was at Washington about as long as Drew Barrymore lasted in the movie "Scream" – arranged for a dark 7 p.m. CT (5 p.m. PT) kickoff and a Nebraska "blackout" game.
It won't be a skeleton crew out there for Washington this week, but they've got some injury issues – as has been the case all season.
(Okay, one more, and I will stop.)
