Analysis: Could Davis Fogle Be Gonzaga’s Next First-Round Pick?
Optimism is high for Davis Fogle prior to his sophomore season, but just how close is the 6-7 guard to being Gonzaga's next first-round pick?
Some elite basketball players have played for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. GU has sent 34 athletes to the NBA, with 13 of them being first-rounders. Currently, 12 former Zags are either on an active roster or on a two-way contract, making it the fifth-most represented program in the country for the 2026-27 season. And soon, a dynamic wing could join that group.
After flashing his robust skill set in his freshman year, 6-7 guard Davis Fogle is expected to leap as a sophomore. He is one of the Bulldogs’ two returning rotation players, and because he'll receive more offensive responsibility, Fogle is pegged as a breakout candidate. With his tools, measurables, and playstyle, several models project Fogle as a first-round pick in next summer’s NBA Draft, which Gonzaga hasn’t had since Julian Strawther went 23rd overall to the Denver Nuggets in 2023, and a Zag hasn't been named at all in the last two drafts.
The former four-star recruit moved from Alaska to Anacortes, WA, in the fourth grade and shined for three years at Anacortes High School. He won back-to-back 2A Northwest Conference MVPs, averaging 24.6 points as a sophomore and then 31.4 points as a junior. For his senior season, Fogle transferred to AZ Compass Prep, averaging 10.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. ESPN deemed him the No. 38 prospect in the Class of 2025 and the No. 3 ranked player in Arizona. He turned down offers from schools such as Kansas, LSU, and Louisville in favor of Gonzaga.
Giving a glimpse of his ceiling at Kraziness in the Kennel, Fogle scored an event-record 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting while knocking down six of his seven 3-point attempts. The three-level scoring and relentless rim pressure won’t just make Fogle a dangerous offensive weapon for Gonzaga in its first year in the Pac-12, but also the electrifying modern guard that NBA front offices dream of. So what pro traits has Fogle already shown, and where does he need to grow for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to call his name next June?
