When the NFL calendar turns to late May, OTAs and a quick June minicamp are the only things standing in between NFL fans and a long, dark summer before training camp. Seattle begins OTAs on May 27 and will host a three-day minicamp starting June 17\. After that, it’s basically radio silence until training camp officially opens in late July. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a little more excitement this offseason, however.

The Seahawks have roughly $31 million in free cap space for 2025, which ranks as the ninth-most in the NFL. While they shouldn’t spend all of it, in case they need to make some in-season acquisitions, there certainly is room for another signing or two to boost the roster ahead of training camp.

Which remaining free agents might make sense for Seattle to pursue?

### Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE

Clowney is certainly not the outlandish defensive prospect that went No. 1 overall in 2014 anymore. However, his most recent best season came under Mike Macdonald’s tutelage. In 2023, he tied his career high with 9.5 sacks and set a new career high with 71 quarterback pressures. If Clowney and Macdonald want to make magic again, Seattle is a good spot. Plus. it will give the veteran a chance to rinse out what was an underwhelming 2019 campaign with the Seahawks. This makes a lot of sense if the two sides want it.

### Rasul Douglas, CB

The Seahawks definitely need to add some depth at cornerback. Douglas is not yet 30 years old, but is coming off of a disappointing campaign with Buffalo. Between 2021 and 2023, he put together three solid seasons being a boundary corner for Green Bay and Buffalo, not allowing a passer rating above 84.0 in any season. With the Seahawks turning to Josh Jobe and Shemar Jean-Charles, both on one-year deals, to man the boundary spot opposite Riq Woolen - who is in the last year of his rookie deal - it’s safe to say the cornerback spot is tenuous depth-wise. Douglas can add a level of veteran leadership and stability, if Seattle inks him for two seasons.

### Shaquill Griffin, CB

Ditto for Griffin. The Seahawks need help at boundary corner. It doesn’t hurt that Griffin and the Seahawks are familiar with each other, even if it’s a new regime. He has the length to defend the boundary, which he has to a serviceable quality for the better part of eight seasons. Last year, he allowed just a 73.8 passer rating for the Vikings in a rotational reserve role. While he isn’t one to rack up the interceptions as Douglas has during his career, he could provide a needed level of stability and reliability to the cornerback depth chart.

### Za'Darius Smith, EDGE

The Seahawks signed DeMarcus Lawrence in free agency, making the EDGE position less of a siren-blaring need. However, with Uchenna Nwosu, Boye Mafe, and Derick Hall rounding out the EDGE group, Seattle could use a bit more depth and dependability. It wasn’t that long ago that Smith was producing Pro Bowl and borderline All-Pro seasons for the Packers and Vikings. Even last season, he racked up nine sacks. His 63 quarterback pressures from 2024 is the third-most in his career. If Seattle wanted to double down on the accomplished thirty-something year old EDGE rusher along with Lawrence, Smith is a fine option.

### David Andrews, C

There has been virtually no noise surrounding Andrews’ free agency. Retirement appears to still very much be on the table. The Patriots shockingly released him after 10 seasons as a franchise staple at center. That dates back to the Patriots’ last two Super Bowl titles in 2016 and 2018\. Even if the Seahawks bring him in for nothing more than a sparring partner and leader for their young core of linemen, while providing veteran insurance, that would be beneficial. It’s unclear if Andrews would agree to such a role. His 2024 season was cut short due to injury but before that, he was as steady of a presence at center as they come in the NFL. Seattle hasn’t had that for the better part of a decade now.
